AH CRAP...
I hate it when musicians I have a lot of respect for seem to sell out. Now we never hear all the details as to why they are doing this stuff, and there might be good reason, I just don't always see it.
Tommy Lee is a great example. The guy is a media whore lately and it drives me nuts, cause Tommy is one of the coolest guys on the planet. I LOVE Tommy, but the whole Tommy Lee goes to collage thing was fuckin foolish, 90% of it was staged and it made him look like an idiot. It was a bad idea in every way. Tommy, you are rich, famous and cool, you don't have to do anything and everything they throw in front of you just to get on TV or on the news!
Then there's other guys like Jason Newsted who stay true to their guns. I mean, this guy quit Metallica so he could be is own artist and stay true to his heart. He could have stayed and acted like he was happy and just played the songs the other guys wrote while counting his millions and millions, but being his own artist meant more to him than money. The band turned on him and crapped on him over and over, but he simply took the high road on the whole thing. He did his solo project, then he joined Ozzy's band. It was a second dream come true for him. (the first being when he got the Metallica gig). He toured with Oz and wasn't happy with the personal situations there and left once again. His integrity and happiness meant more than simple dollar signs.
Jason had a lot of my respect and I loved him in Metallica... Which is why this bothers me so much...
ROCKSTAR Season 2- SUPERNOVA. Supernova being Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke (ex-Guns and Roses, solo stuff, MC5 and producer).
WHY, OH WHY GUYS? Oh, I'll watch, but it definitely has knocked all three down a notch on the cool factor. Like I said, you never hear all the details as to why they are doing this stuff, and there might be good reason, I just don't always see it. We'll see what the whole thing is about and how it plays out soon enough.
