Terry Fox Run Update #2
PAIN is the name of the game!
Man, my right leg has just been on fire for the past 4 days! Arthritis is a BITCH! I'm moving around like a 400 year old monk who has been sitting in the lotus position for 380 of his years! If I didn't know better, I'd put money on a really bad sprain or another stress fracture, but I DO know better, and getting older sucks.
I woke up Monday and realized the 25 KM (10K on Sat, 10K on Sun and 5 K with my brother that night) I had done over the weekend was way to much for me at this point. I'll have to spread my runs out a little more or keep the distances down a bit cause I could barely walk. Tuesday I could only do 12 minutes before the pain stopped me, but yesterday I spent a full 44 minutes on the treadmill, 35 of those minutes running. I'm getting stronger all the time, now an hour non-stop seems more like a do-able goal in 3 or 4 weeks. I don't know why but I find the treadmill MUCH MUCH harder than running outside, and it's boring as hell! Advil is still my best friend.
Yeah, it sounds like I'm whining, but then I think about what Terry Fox did and tie my sneakers up again! What I'm trying to do is NOTHING compared to 5,000 KM on one leg.
I'm also wondering if glucosamine isn't the biggest scam ever or what. "Take these pills three times a day and in 2 or 3 months you'll start to feel better". In 2 or 3 months I won't remember exactly what my pain felt like today. I'm guessing the changes in weather might account for a lot of people feeling better too. I'm just sounding bitter and sceptical, cause I'm tired of taking them all the time. We'll see in time if they work or not.
One huge benefit of all this running! I'm able to eat a lot more. Last year to get down to a 6 pack I had to eat under 2000 calories a day. This year I'm eating around 3000 calories a day (or more) and even loosing a bit of weight. I am trying to consume more and more healthy calories though to keep my strength up and help my body recover from all the running. You simply can't run for close to an hour if you aren't feeding your body properly. Not collapsing has become the priority over a 6 pack for the next little while.
On a related note-- A recent study gave statistics that there are now more obese people in the world, (not fat, or overweight, but obese) than there are starving people in the world. That's just a sad statement on our world, our political structures, our care for our fellow humans and on our morals. I say lets feed the obese people to the starving people... both problems solved... Of course I'm kidding... Or am I?
Thanks to everyone supporting me and the cause so far, especially Paul giving such huge support (even on his website!).
