Screw You, I Like Microsoft

That's right, I like Microsoft...

I've been using computers all my life. The first time I can remember vividly using them was the day the first Space Shuttle was launched (April 12th, 1981). I was out in the hall of my elementary school playing on a Texas Instruments TI99/4A Home Computer and was called back into the classroom to watch the shuttle launch. Since then I've never been a computer nerd, but they've always been around me. (I figure you have to be able to program something to be a true computer nerd)

The good old TI 99/4A

I have family and friends that have trouble hooking up a printer or don't know how to search with Google, yet complain and worry about Windows XP taking over their system if they install it. To these people the anti-Microsoft stuff is just hype they have been sold through the media. They honestly don't know what they are doing on their computer, but have heard from a friend of a friend who is using Linux that Windows sucks and if you spend a lot of money on something (IE a new computer) you shouldn't have something that sucks.

Personally I think Microsoft creates products that fulfil 99% of the average computer user's needs. They keep simple interfaces with very little problems and continually try to improve on what is out there. Sure there have been some major problems, but when you are trying to make new technology available to people who don't know how to program their VCR, there is going to be a few bumps in the road.

Naysayers also harp on Microsoft's continually changing their products. Windows, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows XP (these are just the windows I've used over the years) and so forth. WHAT DO YOU WANT? Do you want the technology to stay the same? Can you imagine surfing the web or doing the most basic things on the original Windows? I'm glad it has grown and gotten better and better.

Here's an example of Microsoft improving a simple product once again, Microsoft AntiSpyware beta, which has been working great for me (and has been FREE for about 6 months) is going to turn into a complete system cleaning and computer health program. Windows OneCare Live: Coming soon to beta (Which will be FREE for another 6 months while they beta this) This is something EVERYBODY needs in today's web world, it's a great idea and it works. So why is Microsoft evil for creating this for the average computer user?

Imagine a company that had created a product in any other field that hit the right price point, addressed the users needs and wasn't too difficult to get your head around. Can you imagine 9 out of every 10 cars being exactly the same, or 9 out of 10 homes being exactly alike, or how about almost everyone in the same fashions, not because they had to, but by choice. This is what Microsoft is to the computer world, even today with EVERYBODY bashing them all the time. They must be doing something right...
