Re-living My Childhood Yet Again-- Chuck Taylor's

Time to get new shoes... So, I instantly go and grab a pair of Reebok Classic Insignia.. No thinking involved, I've worn them for YEARS and YEARS...

I get home and my wife is not impressed. She's NEVER really cared for them and every year when I get a new pair I hear about it. The months pass and it's forgotten. Since I've lost weight I'm a little more open to trying new clothes, new sizes, and that shit... I'm not really trying to hide my body under clothes anymore and after listening to her solid logic as to why they aren't cool shoes ("I'm blinded by your white sneakers" "You've worn those FOREVER" "Mr. Roger's called and wants his shoes back" "They look goofy"... Good arguments eh?) I decided to pop around the net and see what's out there for shoes.

So I'm looking at shoe stores on line and just about the same time I get a batch of old pictures from my parents. They are always dropping off old pics lately. I think they've realized they are mortal and are slowly cleaning everything up so my brother and I don't have to do it someday when they are gone. They are also making sure they get the opportunity to see me enjoy this stuff before they are gone. Often people inherit pics (and other items) and wish their folks were still around just to talk about the memories, thank them etc... Instead of hiding them away in photo albums my folks are doing it while they are alive and enjoying looking at them a second time with family together.

So anyways, in a bunch of the old pics I'm wearing old Converse sneakers. I vividly remember getting in trouble for writing on the canvas tops (which was the cool thing to do), coloring in the rubber out sole, peeling the "All Star" patch off the back and a ton of other stuff that used to get me in trouble. So I start searching the net and there they are, still the exact same sneaker some 20 years later (In fact they've been making them the exact same since 1923)...

Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars

Too cool! So I get a pair in black (We all wore white in school so we could write all over them). and my wife LOVED them! I gotta tell ya, it's cool to throw something on your feet that's been around for almost a 100 years and hasn't changed a bit! The exact same shoes guys were wearing in 1923 to play basketball, the same shoes the Ramones wore, the same shoes "Rocky" trained in, that Marty McFly wore, Slash, Kurt Cobain, Tom Petty... Our Parents ... and even... Our grandparents.

And now the big problem starts.... Chucks come in a million shades today, there's the low and high tops of course... black and white.... how about red, purple, green, blue and EVRY color you can think of... then there's the flames, graffiti, flags, stripes.... well, everything you can imaging... 100's of different variations and you can even design your own on Converse.com!!!!! (Can't if you live in Canada... well, not yet.... fuckers) and the problem is now that I've made the change out of my safety zone with my old Reebok standards.... I WANT THEM ALL!!!!!

Gratuitous hot chick
