Metallica's "Some Kind Of Monster" PART 1
Well, I finally got around to watching Metallica's Some Kind of Monster and I'm disappointed I did... Here's a few thoughts...
Part 1 "The Shrink".
I don't even know where to start with this joker (Phil Towle)... First I've been in A LOT of therapy sessions and the psychobabble this guy was dishing out was third rate garbage. Honestly, I could have given better therapy session, and that's just sad.
Then there's the fact that this guy was getting $40,000.00 a month (that's $480,000.00 a year for you slow people out there) plus expenses. Metallica had turned into such a cash cow for him that at one point in the movie he's going to sell his home and move closer to Metallica's headquarters because he's tired of flying back and forth every couple of days. (Metallica was paying for all those flights on top of his fee BTW)
Then there' the scene where they talk about not using him as much (by not as much they mean once a week or so) and you can see him just fighting for his life to stay on the payroll. He starts saying it's because they dont trust him and that's part of their problem and that he has all these great performance ideas for the tour. (Honestly, this is what he says, this 60 year old shrink is going to tell the band that created modern metal and has sold 100,000,000 albums how to act on stage!) He's got these guys so fooled I wouldn't be surprised if he's still helping them...
OK, so lets say he did help even with his crude intern techniques and the money was well spent... This guy is in his 60's, hanging out with Metallica all day and by the end of the film HE THINKS HE'S PART OF THE FUCKIN BAND. He's sitting around with the guys 24/7 wearing sunglasses, sitting in on business meetings, giving suggestions in meetings to decide on album art, the album title and even giving lyric suggestions to JAMES HETFIELD! About 3/4 of the way through the movie he talks with "We"s", "Our"s and "Us"s ect when referring to the CD Metallica is making.
